Dealing with stress is a normal part of all our lives. This is especially true when it comes to trying to balance our careers and our family responsibilities. These are both demanding and time consuming parts of our lives, so which one should take priority?
Depending on the person, building a successful career could be the most important thing right now. For other people, they have children and families that require a lot of time and attention that work life may be eating into.
There are a few ways in which we can balance our careers with our home lives:
- Prioritise: There will be days when your family takes precedent over your career such as when your child is ill. Always do the urgent and important things first. If something can wait until tomorrow, then leave it.
- Plan: The better your time planning, the less likely you are to come up at the end of the day and realise you have forgotten to do something. Remember to plan in some alone time for yourself as well.
- Ask for help: You do not need to do everything yourself. Ask your family to help you with home duties and delegate as far as possible when at work.
- Breath: The saying that “This too shall pass” is too true. If you feel yourself getting flustered with home or work activities, take a deep breath, take a look around and do point number 1 again.
Work / Life balance is definitely possible; it just takes work and discipline.
